That's a wonderful tattoo! My first tattoo was a celtic piece as well. I agree with you that the outlining usually is rather easy. It's always been the shading that's been the true pain of the process. I'm lucky that I've yet to have a tattoo that has made me cry or that I haven't been able to hold a conversation through. I'm probably expecting my next tattoo to perhaps cause me more problems on that front though. It's going to be big. Again, congrats on the Tattoo and the wonderful design. Did you make arrangements before hand or did you just come as a walk-in to the shop? Yeah, if this was your first tattoo and you really enjoyed it, be warned, getting tattooed is addictive. I have three already and I'm only 20!
I was in talks with the artist over the design over several weeks. It was a 3 hour drive to the location she was at from where I live, so I had to do a lot in advance. I told her what I wanted, she created it and emailed it to me, and we hashed out the last little details in person the day of my appointment with her. I am very happy with my results and will definitely return for more.
