Can't anyone be responsible for themselves anymore?
Using your iPod while crossing the road may soon be illegal in New York.NY State Senator Carl Kruger wants to slap a $100 (£51) fine on pedestrians using MP3 players, mobile phones or Blackberries while crossing the road.
Two of his Brooklyn constituents had been killed after walking into traffic while listening to MP3 players in the last few months, Mr Kruger said.
Give me a break. How long has portable music devices and video games existed? It wasn't until recently this was a problem? Why can't people be responsible for themselves? No one is taking away the car stereos that I frequently hear blasting away from down the street. That's a distraction too... Let's take away all distractions... heck! Let's just make it illegal to leave your house!
I pray that this "law" isn't taken seriously. If someone is irresponsible and causes a traffic problem or a threat to safety then they should be fined or get a ticket, but everyone else shouldn't suffer for it. I can think for myself thank you, I don't need a "well-meaning politician" to do it for me. In my opinion this is just like the "McDonald's clogged my arteries" excuse. Take responsibility for your own actions and for the love of all that is holy PLEASE stop being so stinking lawsuit happy. Own up to your own mistakes.

I am also using my iPod on bicycling (on a level I still can hear the traffic, thx to listening podcasts...).
Reminds me a little of the american habit (is it?) of having ALL dangers described in a manual (...do throw your fan in the pool etc. - or the - urban legend ? - of an American suing the cruise control company because the didn't mention in the instructions that cooking coffee in a camping bus on cruise control might be a bad idea .....)
People should consider some things on their brains instead of having all ordered by law.
